Remembering and Celebrating Rev. Carrie Hunter - (January 24, 1942 - April 5, 2025)

People often stopped Rev. Carrie on the street to say, "You look familiar. Aren't you that minister who prays?" It was a source of amusement - but in fact, prayer was the centre of her life and she had a passion for using it and sharing affirmative prayer techniques with others.
She became a minister in 2004 and was a practitioner since 1997. She was a staff minister at the White Rock Centre for Spiritual Living for a number of years and then founded her own work, The Agape Centre for Spiritual Living in Vancouver. Because of her "straight from the heart" services, she was sought after to do ceremonies - particularly weddings, celebrations of life and baby-blessings. She wrote unique, personalized ceremonies for each one she did.
Carrie (as she preferred to be addressed) came to ministry after a long, successful career as a journalist, writer-producer in television, President of the Banff World Television Festival, and a strategic planning, marketing and development consultant. Her work took her around the world and back many times. Her clients included the Vatican's official licensing agency, Illuminata Films; the United Nations as well as major film studios and non-profit agencies. In addition, she was an author and the editor of several books.
She was a popular guest speaker in many churches/centres in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. She taught spiritual classes, personal growth workshops and was an established life coach.

As working with the Banff World Media Festival had been one of Carrie's passions her daughter Kendall and grandson Nick handed out an inaugural award in her name at the 2025 Festival.
From Kendall ... " Feeling proud and grateful to be back at the Banff World Media Festival. I grew up with the fest and as I think of those very early days, while witnessing it still going strong 46 years later under the helm of Jenn Kuzmyk and her fantastic team, it brings a world of emotions back. Thanks to my nephew Jake for being my 'wingman' on stage to present the inaugural Carrie Hunter Emerging Talent Award to the team behind the short dramedy 'Get Up Aisha'. So nice to see the whole family together (while missing a few important faces) honouring Mom's legacy"
